KS1

The transition from Early Years to Primary can seem like a big step; our skilled Key Stage 1 team ensures that pupils feel confident, happy and enthusiastic about the development of their learning.

Key Stage 1 consists of Year 1 and Year 2 (ages 5-7) and builds upon the skills learnt in Early Years. Building knowledge and confident strategies for English, maths and Thai is the key focus of Key Stage 1 with daily sessions in these areas.

Pupils are tested on their phonics knowledge and ability at the end of Year 1 and continue daily practise in Year 2 so that they are equipped with the English skills necessary to access the learning in Key Stage 2. At the end of Year 2, pupils are tested in reading comprehension, spelling and grammar, writing and maths. Science investigations at this age engage, inspire and address key misconceptions about the world around us.

Pupils also enjoy exploring their creativity, expressing artistically and cherishing lots of opportunities for imaginative play at this age in structured learning activities (such as book studies); role play areas and on the playground.
