KS2

KS2

Key Stage 2 consists of Years 3-6 (age 7-11) and complements children’s natural curiosity at this age by building knowledge in all areas. Pupils develop their reading comprehension, verbal fluency and written ability through engaging and ambitious history, geography and science units: there is opportunity for discussion and debate as pupils develop their critical thinking skills. Book studies become more in-depth and pupils begin to learn how to write essays.

Key Stage 2 offers a lot of opportunities for developing mathematical reasoning skills. Pupils are tested in Year 4 with CAT4, which is particularly good for assessing the potential of pupils who perhaps do not have a strong basis of English yet.

Pupils joining the school in Key Stage 2 will be offered extra support, particularly with English, if necessary. At the end of Year 6, pupils are tested in reading comprehension, spelling and grammar, writing and maths.
